Dr. Thieiman chalienged the grad uates to lead "a great life" dedicated to a great person, a great purpose and a great principle. Dr. Thiehnan used the life of the Apostle Paul as an example of a great Mb. Lisa Alison Ohler gave the valedictory address. Lana Lynette Tuttle delivered the salutatory address. A "fender bender" in the paridng area behind the Town Hali on May 18 resulted in no injuries, police said. A1986 Pontiac received (600 damage May 21 when a CP6tL truck backed into it on Ninth Street. The driver was not injured. Another minor accident occured at OH U S. 70 and Padgettown Road on May 31 when one car failed to yield the right-of-way. Gary Conway of Statesville, N.C. was arrested on May 22 and charged with driving under the influence and reddess driving on State Street. Robert Theodore Lytle of Old Port was arrested May 21 for a red light violation. Daniel Robert Little of Haven, N.C. was ticketed for illegally passing ano ther vehicle in a no passing area. Public fKs ctfTHT!<y on combined igfovejrmmmtiif A public hearing on the Asheville Buncombe Charter Commission's pre liminary proposal for a consolidated city-county government will be held at Owen High School June 8 at 7 JO p.m. Copies of the Charter Commission Report are available at the Town Hall in Blade Mountain. The Asheville-Buncombe Charter Commission was established in Septem ber, 1981 by an act of the N.C. General Assembly. Local representatives are Dr. Alfred 0. Canon, Montreat, and the Rev. Edgar E. Ferrell, Blade Mountain. After five hearings around the coun ty, the Commission will review com ments and suggestions made at the hearings and make necessary changes in the charter. The final plan will be placed before voters in the countv and aty at the Nov. 2 elections. Approval of consolidation will require a favorable vote outside the City of Asheville, a favorable vote by Asheville residents and by the citizens of each town before it goes into effect. Ptanning Board meeting scheduted The Black Mountain Planning Board will meet Wednesday evening, June 2, at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall. Hie birth of the coit was a special event as his mother has only one ovary and was not believed able to conceive. Town Board hires recreation director,proposes 1982-83 budget Robert Antozzi of Blacksburg, Va. was hired as recreation director by Blade Mountain aidermen at a special budget meeting Thursday night, May 26. Antozzi will begin work the second week of June. A budget proposal of $949,998 was passed at the meeting on the first reading. Expected revenue, according to the proposal, is $935,998 for the 1982-83 year, a deBat of $14,010. The board voted to accept a bid for a three year sanitation contract with David Young. Young's bid included dumpster service as well as individual garbage pick-up. The scaled contract is set at $68,000 for the Brst year, $71,000 for the second year, and $74,000 for the third. It will be open seven days a week from 12:30-5:30 p.m. daily except Sundays when it is open from 1-5:30 p.m. Swimming iessons will be taught Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon. To register for lessons, call the - pool. A fee will be charged. Senior citizens and We-* .., Carolina Center residents will use the pool Friday mornings. Rices wiil remain the same as iast year, according to pooi manner Ralph Singieton. Fees will be$1.25 hr aduKs, 75 cents for students, $40 for a single season pass and $75 for a family season pass. Loco! women take top ceramic awards Two Black Mountain women took top awards in the May 29-30 Western North Carolina Ceramic Association show held at the National Guard Armory in Asheville. Winning the top professional award, the "Peggy," was Brenda Barker, She won the award for a fairy vase. Winning the top award for senior dtizens, the "Freddy," was Gussie Barker. Her prize-winning entry was a stain and glaze combination ginger jar. A total of 400 pieces were entered by amateurs and professionals, ranging in age from children to senior citizens. All 20 entries from Bren-Way Ceram ics on State Street won 28 first, second or third ribbons in the show. They won a total of 15 first place ribbons. National Judges jurying the competi tion came from New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
